What is a Typing Speed Test?
A one minute test that reports words per minute and accuracy, with each character marked correct or wrong as you type it.
Words per minute uses the standard definition of five characters to a word, counting only correctly typed characters, which is how typing speed is quoted on job descriptions and in tests.
Raw speed on its own is not worth much. A run at 70 words per minute with 92 percent accuracy is slower in practice than 60 with 99 percent, because every error costs a backspace and a re-type. Both numbers are shown for that reason.
Frequently asked questions
How is words per minute calculated?
Correctly typed characters divided by five, scaled to a minute. Five characters is the standard word length used by every typing test, so the number is comparable with the ones quoted elsewhere.
What counts as a good speed?
Around 40 words per minute is a common office baseline, 60 to 70 is comfortably fast, and above 90 is unusual. Accuracy above 97 percent matters more than raw speed for real work.
Does it record what I type?
No. The comparison happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere or stored.
Can I retake it?
As often as you like, and each run picks a fresh passage so you are not typing from memory.
