Privacy Policy
This policy describes what BitsSolved does with personal data on bitssolved.com, including the free tools. It is written from what the software actually does rather than from a template, and it is kept in the same repository as the code so the two do not drift apart.
The short version
- Most of the tools on this site process your files and text entirely in your browser. Those files are never uploaded and we never see them.
- If you send an enquiry, we keep what you typed so we can reply to it.
- If you join a waiting list for a product we are building, we keep your email address so we can tell you when it opens.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits. You can turn it off from this site, and we explain how below.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not run advertising networks on this site.
What we collect, and why
When you send an enquiry
The form on the homepage sends us your first name, last name if you give one, email address, phone number if you give one, the service you picked, and your message. That record is stored in our database and is also emailed to us so we can reply. We keep it for as long as we may reasonably need it to answer you and to keep a record of the work we have quoted for.
The notification email that reaches us also records the IP address the form was submitted from, your browser's user agent string, and an approximate location worked out from that IP: normally a city or metro area, the region and the country, plus the network operator. We use it to tell a real enquiry from an automated one and to know roughly where in the world you are before we reply. That location is an estimate from an offline database, it is frequently only accurate to the nearest large city, and it is not stored alongside your enquiry: it exists in the email we received.
The lookup runs on our own server against a local copy of a public IP location database. Your IP address is not sent to any third-party geolocation service.
With an enquiry or a waiting-list signup we also store the page the form was on, the website that sent you to us, and any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source), so we can see which pages bring enquiries. The copy held by the website itself is deleted after 90 days; in our back office, enquiries that do not lead to work are anonymised 12 months after our last contact, and enquiries that lead to work are anonymised 24 months after the work is agreed. You can ask us to delete an enquiry at any time.
Once a day we also email ourselves an internal summary of the previous day's activity, which lists the email addresses of new accounts and waiting-list joins and the name, email, service and opening words of any enquiry. It goes only to our own inbox and is not shared with anyone.
When you join a waiting list
Three things on this site are not on sale yet, and each has a waiting list: the HR Platform, Finance Tracker and BitsSolved Tools Pro. Joining one stores your email address, which product you asked about, the date you asked, and the page and campaign tags described above. That is the whole of what we store. There is no name field, because we do not need one to send you an email. As with an enquiry, the notification email that reaches us also carries the IP address, user agent and an approximate location, resolved on our own server and not stored on the list itself.
We use it for exactly one thing: to email you when that product opens. It is not a newsletter, it is not merged into a marketing list, and it is not shared with anyone. Joining the same list twice does not create a second record. Ask us at any time and we will delete your address, and we will delete the lists once each product has launched and the people on them have been told.
When you sign in to raise your tool limits
Signing in is optional and exists only to raise the daily usage limits on the free tools. We store your email address and the date the account was created. To sign you in we email a six digit code, and we keep that code, its expiry time and the number of attempts until it expires. There is no password to store, because there is no password.
A signed-in session is held in a cookie called bs_session.
It is an httpOnly cookie, which means the page scripts cannot read it.
When you use a tool
We count how many times each tool has been used, per day, so the free limits can be applied. That record holds the tool name, the day, a count, and a subject, which is your account if you are signed in and your IP address if you are not. It contains none of your content.
Client-side tools, which is most of them, do their work in your browser. Images, PDFs and text you drop into them are never transmitted to us and never leave your device.
Server-backed tools are the ones that have to reach the internet to answer: the DNS, SSL, WHOIS, HTTP header, redirect, robots, sitemap and website health checkers. For those, the hostname or URL you enter is sent to our server so the check can be run against it. We do not keep those lookups tied to you beyond the usage count described above.
When you pay for BitsSolved Tools Pro
Paid plans are not on sale yet: the checkout is still being built, and until it ships nothing in this section is happening. This is what we will do once it does, written down in advance so you can hold us to it.
Payments will be processed by Razorpay. When you pay, the payment page is Razorpay's: your card, UPI, netbanking or wallet details are typed into Razorpay and go to Razorpay and your bank. BitsSolved will never see or store your card number, CVV, UPI PIN or netbanking credentials. Razorpay handles that data under its own privacy policy and its PCI DSS obligations.
What BitsSolved will store about a paid plan is limited to: the account it belongs to (your email address), which plan you are on, its status (active, cancelled, failed), the Razorpay payment and subscription IDs, the amount and currency, and the relevant dates (started, renews, cancelled, last payment). We keep payment records for as long as the law requires us to keep accounting records. Razorpay's retention is its own.
Server logs and abuse prevention
Our web server keeps ordinary request logs, and the API applies rate limits by IP address so a single client cannot overwhelm it. These exist to keep the service available and secure.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and tools are used. It sets cookies and is operated by a company outside India, which means this data is processed abroad. It is not used for advertising on this site.
You can switch Google Analytics off for this browser by visiting bitssolved.com/?noga=1 once. That sets a flag in your browser which disables it on every page from then on, and ?noga=0 turns it back on. The setting lives in your browser, so it applies to that browser only.
Your browser's own Do Not Track or tracking protection settings, and any content blocker you use, will also stop this script from loading.
Who else sees your data
Our email provider delivers the enquiry emails, and Google Analytics receives usage data. Once paid plans exist, Razorpay will receive the payment details you give it at checkout, and your email address so it can send a receipt. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the address below and we will act on it. If you sent an enquiry and simply want the record gone, say so and we will remove it.
Security, stated plainly
The site is served over TLS, credentials are encrypted, sessions use httpOnly cookies, and we keep dependencies patched. We also run the same security checkers we publish as free tools against our own site.
To be equally plain about what we do not have: BitsSolved holds no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA attestation. If your project needs a certified vendor, we will tell you before you sign anything.
Children
This site is aimed at businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
